Collection of the objects from the Zinjibar Museum

The city of Zinjibar is located in the Abyan governorate, about 55 km east of Aden. Its museum includes a small but valuable collection of South Arabian objects, made up of 15 pieces, some of them coming from the National Museum of Aden.

The newly built museum, intended to host this collection, was in preparation when the CASIS team visited it in October 2008 and digitally catalogued its pieces. The Zinjibar Museum was open to public but, in 2012, during of the conflict opposing the Yemeni army to al Qaeda in Abyan governorate, the structure was regrettably devastated. The museum is at present inaccessible for the serious damages it underwent. Some of the pieces that the CASIS team photographed and inventoried in the museum were shattered and others, the most valuable, were surely plundered.
