Apparatus
4-5The reading of the name seems to be Krb(t), but the last letter is not easily recognizable and a reading Krbm would be more reasonable, on the basis of a widespread use of this name in onomastics.
5The editor suggests to integrate w-[kl byt-h]w on the basis of CIH 543.

CULTURAL NOTES

This is an invocation made to the god Rḥmnn by an individual who, according to the editors, might be a “Chaldean”. As it is well known, another mention of a “Chaldean” in the south Arabian texts was recognized in the Ḥaḍramitic inscription RES 4859/3: ks²dyyhn. Bron (1986: 95-98) speaks of a "notation divergente de la sifflante" in RES 4109, where the term is with s¹ instead of s² and therefore would not correspond to the Biblical Kasdīn. Besides, as Hayajneh suggests, al-Kasād is attested as name of place in the Yemeni-Arabic tradition.
