8(s²ġ)lm w-kl (G. Ryckmans), hglm bn (Beeston 1956: 294 and Ryckmans, Jacques 1957: 93), (ʾġ)lm kl (Robin).
10Robin's reading is based on the comparison with Ry 506, 4 and 5 (ʿl, S¹ʿdm); G. Ryckmans reads S¹wd w-Wlh, with no evidence of these as names of tribes.

TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  ʾbkrb ʾs¹ʿd and his son Ḥs³n Yhʾmn, the two kings of Sabaʾ,
   2  ḏu-Raydān, Ḥaḍramawt, Yamanat and the arabs of Ṭwdm and Thmt,
   3  sons of Ḥs³n Mlkkrb Yhʾmnn, king of Sabaʾ, ḏu-
   4  Raydān, Ḥaḍramawt, Yamanat wrote this inscription in the wadi
   5  Mʾs¹l Gmḥn, when they undertook an expedition and took possession of the land
   6  of Mʿdm, going down with their tribes and with their tribes of
   7  Ḥaḍramawt and Sabaʾ and banū Mārib, those who are subject to the authority
   8  of their ʾqwl, going down to the lowland with their lieutenants and
   9  their ʾtly, their hunters, their leaders, their Arabs
  10  of Kinda, S¹wd, Wlh [... ...]
5-6"en descendant d'accord avec leur tribus" (G. Ryckmans), "quand ils se sont rendus et ont séjourné dans le Pays de Mʿdm à  l'occasion même de l'établissement de certaines de leurs tribus" (Robin 1996 b).
7-9Gajda's translation of the key passage: "en descendant la plaine (?) avec leurs lieutenants ..." follows Beeston and J. Ryckmans' suggestion (reading: hglm). The other editors have: "les moindres de leurs préposés et de travailleurs (reading: s²ġlm), [et tous] leurs fonctionnaires, et leurs suivants, et leurs chasseurs, et leurs tenanciers" (G. Ryckmans), "les plus jeunes de leurs qayls et les jeunes gens (reading: ʾġlm) [de l'ensemble] de leurs officiers, de leurs cavaliers, de leurs chasseurs et leurs troupes" (Robin).

CULTURAL NOTES

The word qls¹n means "church" (loanword from the Greek ecclesía). In the monotheistic inscriptions it is curiously found only in the texts of Yusuf, the Jewish king who destroyed the Christian churches of Ẓafār and Mokha (see also Ry 508,3 and Ja 1028/3).
