Notes on support and decorationsThe face of the censer has a decoration in a recessed panels, with a crescent moon and disc (now missing) at the top, above a line of dentils and an inscription comprising four raised characters. Below is another row of dentils. The inscription is flanked by recessed panels with “false window” decoration, which project upwards at the top. Above the crescent moon and disc was some form of projecting tiered decoration. On either side, the upper edge has three steps going down towards the back, each embellished with raised dentil decoration in a recessed panel. This type of decoration imitates on a miniature scale that which was used on certain monumental buildings, including temples.
