MONUMENTS

The sanctuary is located along the Nahar al-Awali, on its southern terrace. It consists of a paltform in shape of truncated pyramid (middle VI cent. BC) that was later implemented in a podium (end of the VI - middle IV cent BC) provided with a monumental gateway. An oblong temple with two columns on the front was placed on the podium. An amphyprostile temple was built in the IV cent. BC, inspired to Greek models but with architectural elements of the Achaemenid tradition: bases of columns with prominent torus and double bull-protome capitals. The "Eshmun tribune", the "pool of the Astarte's throne" and the "Bâtiment aux frises d'enfants" were build in the same period.
