TRANSLATIONS

English

1  S²wkn son of Kwfʾl dedicated to
2  ḏt Ḥmym the covering slab, by which
3  She was pleased by him, by the command of S¹yn
4  ḏ-Myfʿn, through his father Kwfʾl,
5  because he took for himself
6  a priestess from Her temple; and may
7  it be far from Kwfʾl that
8  he may do something similar to this (again); and S²wkn placed under the will
9  of ḏt Ḥmym ḏt Nʿmn,
10  by his dedication and his offering, Her reward.
2For the translation of bḥt, see Multhoff 2010 c and Prioletta.
2-3For the rḍw formula, see Prioletta.
7The translation of the formulaic verb ys³twr as "to be far from" rather than "to be solved from, remitted from", as originally proposed by Frantsouzoff, was first proposed in Multhoff 2009. See also Multhoff 2010 b and c and Prioletta.
7-8The interpretation of yhlk and ms³l as "to do" and "similar thing" follows Multhoff 2009.

English

1  Shawkān, son of Kawfʾil, dedicated to
2  [Dhā]t Ḥimyam the (votive) phallus, with which she
3  was satisfied for his sake, by the authority of Sīn
4  dhū Mayfaʿān instead of his father K[aw-]
5  fiʾl, because a sacrilege had moved aside
6  from her temple. And from
7  Kawfʾil may be remitted that he shaped
8  her image. And Shawkān [plac]ed under the
9  will of Dhāt Ḥimym dhāt Naʿmān
10  by his offering (by his repenting of sin ?) and by his reconciliation the reconciliation with her
  11  which may be favourable.

1  S²wkn bin Kwfʾl hat ḏt Ḥmym

   3  sie 'unter S¹yn
4  ḏ-Myfʿn' Gefallen an ihm (sc.
