TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  Mḫṭrn ʾs¹ʾr of Ydʿʾl ibn Maʿāhir
   2  and ḏ-Ḫwln, son of Mʿdkrb Yhmgd, qylw
   3  of Rdmn and Ḫwln, dug up, built, completed
   4  and filled with earth the control dyke, its opening and all the
   5  earth filling and channels of this dyke for their
   6  vineyards and their land, that in the valley of Yf-
   7  dʾb, by the help of ʿm ḏ-Mbrqm, Master of S¹l-
   8  ym et Lmmm, ʿtr ḏ-Nwfn, ḏt-B-
   9  ʿdn and their solar deity ʿlyt, and by the power and the mobilization
  10  of their tribe Rdmn Yhrgb.
The terms hwḥl and mlbd are translated respectively on the basis of the Ar. waḥal "bourbier, fange, boue fine, claire" and labbada "coller les parties terreuses entre elles" (Robin 1991: 181-182).
The sing. feminine relative pronoun ḏt should only refer to ʾrḍ-hmw, and the latter noun is therefore at sing. as well, although having a collective meaning.
