GENERAL NOTES

Considering the architectural context, we have defined this a construction text. However, we cannot exclude that "bny Ys¹mʿqhl" is the indication of the family name. See al-Ḥarāshif 2 for comparison.

TEXT

   1  Yhzḥ Rdʿn bn S¹mh—
   2  s¹mʿ bny Ys¹mʿqhl

TRANSLATIONS

English

1  Yhzḥ Rdʿn son of S¹mh-
   2  s¹mʿ built Ys¹mʿqhl.
2the name of the sanctuary sounds unusual, rather resembling a proper name. We could alternatively hypothesize that Ys¹mʿqhl is the name of the family's ancestor, translating: "Yhzḥ Rdʿn son of S¹mhs¹mʿ offspring of Ys¹mʿqhl".
