Notes on support and decorationsThis very famous artefact has been studied by Pirenne (CIAS ii: 235-238), who reconstructed its original form and function (see the facsimile).
On the upper side of the block, only two holes remains of the original four supposed to fix the animal statue. The frontal face is decorated with three horned animal heads in low relief, placed inside a recessed panel with plain framework. J. Pirenne believed to be heads of antelopes; in fact the ringed horns are typical of the antelops, but the quared muzzle belongs to a bull.
According to her reconstruction, the specular right side is missing. At the middle, the block had to support the bethel (qyf) in truncated-pyramid shape.
The base bears two texts, one on the frontal face, another on the left lateral side.
