| Notes on support and decorations | Jamme 1971: 65: "fragment de plaque d'albâtre bleuté, recoupé et utilisé comme lampadaire". The lamp comprises a rectangular recess for filling with oil and a central projection, pierced through to the base, which would have originally held a fixture for carrying or hanging the lamp by a chain. The wicks were placed in the two projecting and indented lips situated at either end of the rim. Decorative lines have been incised into the top and bottom edges. This resembles the oil lamps known in Yemenite Arabic as mesrejeh. |
