GENERAL NOTES

The inscription, seen by Garbini reemployed in a private house at Bayt al-Ashwāl, is now at the museum of Ẓafār.

TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  [... ...] for the glory of Rḥmnn, the Master of the heaven and with
   2  [... ...] their lord the king Mrṯdʾln Ynf.
   3  S²gʿ and his sons Wdfh and ʾṣbḥh, ambassadors,
   4  built, completed and repaired
   5  their house S²bʿn from its foundation to
   6  its top; they built in it an entrance in smooth
   7  stones and in alabaster. By the grace of Rḥmnn. The month
   8  of Mʿn, the year six hundred nineteen.

CULTURAL NOTES

The presence of Ethiopian names and of the word tnbltn "ambassadors" leads Garbini to state that we deal with "Membri dell'aristocrazia axumita che rappresentavano ufficialmente il loro sovrano presso la corte himyarita".
