TRANSLATIONS

English

1  S²mr, of the family Qrynm, dedicated to ʾlmqh ḏ-H-
2  rn the tablet, as ʾlmqh Lord of ʾwm commanded him
3  in His oracle, when S²mr sought a response
4  from Him after the (negative) event which befell in
5  the house of the family Qrynm; and because He saved his servant
6  S²rm from this event. And ʾlmqh
7  promised to S²mr in His oracle a favourable declaration for
8  their freemen and their freewomen and slaves
   9  [... ...]
10  in ʿwm of the citadel ʾlw a bull, as a votive offering,
11  when he reaps forty-fold crops,
12  and more than that. And this oracle and
13  favourable declaration took place in the year of Wddʾl son of
  14  Yqhmlk kbr of Ḫll.
4the verb ḥdṯ "to occur" is attested in Ja 643, 9.
11for ʾqdr Beeston 1976 a: 409 notes: "to me it now appears certain that ʾqdr does not refer to a specific unit of measurement; the phrase means 'reap forty-fold crops', i.e., a crop yield that is forty times the ammount of seed sown".
