Textual typology | Dedicatory text - fragmentary |
The squeez of Glaser (Höfner 1973, pl. XVII, 1) is completed (at the beginning of the lines 2-4) by a fragment of another inscription which was embedded in the same wall. The letters of this second text are bigger (4.1). One can read: (t)[…] ḥ(r)t […] bʿṯt[r…] |
1 | According to the drawing and the restitution published by Mordtmann-Mittwoch (1932, p. 13, pl. IV, nr. 10) (=RES 4127), the name is read as Yḏkrʾl. On the base of the squeeze published in SEG VIII (pl. XVII, 1), Höfner considers the stroke of what has been read as /y/ to be a separator, so that the name is Ḏkrʾl. |
2 | In the RES (which follows the reading of Mordtmann-Mittwoch), the restitution proposed is: [ʾlmqh bʿl ʾw]m, but according to the photo of the squeeze, the reading Gblm is nonetheless indubitable. |
2-3 | At the beginning of the line 3, RES restitutes /t/ and completes the word ṭbt. Höfner proposes ṯb[r] "destroy". |
4 | Mordtmann and Mittwoch read [w-ʾ]qwl-hmw; Höfner: [w]-qny-hmw. |
