Textual typology | Construction text - fragmentary |
The two fragments have been joined by Ryckmans, Jacques 1951 a: 221, note 1. According to Mordtmann and Mittwoch 1931: 3, note 1, the text is part of an inscription commemorating the construction of the Maʾrib dam, then implying a provenance of the text from this city. J. Ryckmans maintains an origin from Ḍāf, considering the passage at l.1, with the possible mention of Rḥbm, the basin of the Marib dam, and then parallel with the events mentioned in CIH 540, only as a quotation of the restoration works referred to in that text. |
1 | Rḥbm can be interpreted as the name of the basin in the southern sluice of Maʾrib dam (Müller) or as a common word ("an Breite"). The integration is based on CIH 540, 10/23/64/72-73. |
3 | ts¹n is explained by Müller as a verb (impf. fem. sg.); however, we prefer to read t-s¹n (t as feminine relative pronoun; see ḏ-s¹n in CIH 325, 1/4). Mfllm is rendered by J. Ryckmans as a technical term. |
4 | according to Müller it could be possible to read l-Ḥkr[... ...] as a proper name. |
6 | for Ymnt see Robin 2013: 131-133. |
