1 | Beeston in CIAS considers the writing Ṣdqʾ an engraver's error for Ṣdqʾl, while Jamme retains Ṣdqʾ. |
English | |
1 Frʿm Ṣdqʾ dug 2 his well Mġyl and its "sister" 3 Tġl in the catchment area (?) of 4 Ḥṣmt. |
2 | For ʾḫt Beeston says: "one may speculate whether the fact that one is called the 'sister' of the other means that they were complementary parts of one system of water-exploitation". bʾr is a feminine noun in Sabaic. -hw could be an engraver's mistake for -h or -hw is referred to the author. |
3 | The translation for ẓbb "catchement area" is suggested by Beeston in CIAS on the basis of the Ar. ṣabba "pour out" and ṣabab "declivity, ground sloping down". Jamme, instead, suggests "fertile tracks of land" relating ẓbb to Ar. ṭabab "a long and narrow track of land abounding with plants or herbage". |
