1 Lfʿṯt Ys²ʿ, of the family Mrḥbm, wzʿ of the tribe of Sabaʾ, dedicated to their Lord ʾlmqh Ṯhwn, Lord of ʾwm, four statues in bronze because He granted to His servant Lfʿṯt Ys²ʿ to return with casualties and prisoners and booty, when he carried out an expedition with the tribe of Sabaʾ to the land of the Ḥaḍramawt; when their lord Ḏmrʿly Yhbr, king of Sabaʾ and ḏu-Raydān and the Ḥaḍramawt and Ymnt, ordered him to carry out an expedition to Ṣwʾrn, ʿqrn, S²bwt, Rṭġtm, Mrymtm and Trm and all the towns and the valley of Ḥaḍramawt, and ʾlmqh granted them to return in safety and glory and with casualties and booty and as he had sought from ʾlmqh; may He grant them prosperity and safety and the goodwill and the satisfaction of their lord Ḏmrʿly Yhbr, king of Sabaʾ and ḏu-Raydān and the Ḥaḍramawt and Ymnt, and may He grant them good crops and harvests and may He deliver them and save them from any evil and mischief and anything against which divine protection is invoked and the malice of any enemy. By ʾlmqh Ṯhwn, Lord of ʾwm. |
1 | ʿdqm: ʿdq in the Sabaic Dictionary is translated as "s.t. against which divine protection is invoked" (Beeston et al. 1982: 12). ʿAṭbūš 2021 a compares ʿdq with Soqotri ʿédaq "to allow", esp. in the phrase ʿātaʿdaq ʾallāh diyʿā "god forbid evil". |
