Notes on support and decorations | Small, soft, yellow sandstone statuette of a seated, probably male, figure. The figure is largely comprised of geometric shapes, with square arms and sharp angles to the shoulders, elbows and knees. The legs, taper down to the ankles are rather squared (in comparison with others examples with column-shaped legs), even if this characteristic can be due to a rough material as the sandstone. The head is large, with the eyes scarcely indicated, a tiny incised mouth low on chin, and no neck. The face is tilted back so that the figure appears to be looking upwards. The chest is indented further than the neck. No breasts are indicated so the figure may be male. A spine is indicated on the reverse as well as the backs of the arms; the back of the head is roughly carved. |
