Notes on support and decorations | The lion, realized in high relief, was placed against some wall, probably flanking an entrance. The inscription is a dedication of two lions. The animal in profile facing right (to the viewer), with the head in frontal view. Rounded muzzle surrounded by a stylized mane, covering the whole chest to the anterior legs; small, circular and concave ears; open fauces showing the tongue and teeth. Body square-built; short legs represented as those of a bull, with the hoofs. Long adherent tail ascending along the abdomen. Lion and base are cast together. Lost wax casting. |
