Notes on support and decorations | Statue of Awsanite king wearing a plain upper garment and wrap-around skirt with fringe, sandals with high sole and various jewels: a precious armlet of three loop-in-loop chains with a large central gem setting and a bracelet on his left arm. The hole on the left closed hand suggests that the king held something, probably a sceptre. Noteworthy: only left arm and hand, holding a sceptre or some symbol of power, wear jewellery. On the head a circular cap or crown. Facial features well characterized with wavy hair framing the face, rounded face, large almond-shaped eyes, straight nose, fleshy mouth, small moustache and stubble beard. The statue, with the exception of the head and feet, is completely flat with a very small thickness like a slab, without traces of body moulding. It was clearly thought only for a frontal view. Back not refined with the exception of the fringed belt at the waist. Inscription filled with black colour. |
