Notes on support and decorations | Small carved and well polished female head with enormous round staring lidded eyes, with the pupils carved for inlay, worried incised eyebrows, a small nose and puckered mouth, a round face with full cheeks, and large lobed ears. This head is carved almost fully in the round. The hair area is left rough and the poll is flat, and was presumably covered in plaster originally. The head originally belonged to a female standing statuette (cf. Antonini). |
