| Notes on support and decorations | "Si la composition est très ordonnée, l'exécution est relativement sommaire. Il s'agit tant pour les deux moulures que pour les rinceaux d'une copie fidèle de schémas fréquentes dans la vaisselle d'argent romaine des II et III s. ap. J.-C." (Baratte 2009: 278). "A group of plants and foliage seeming to grow in a shallow bowl, with stems bearing leaves and buds that trail over on each side. On each half of the bowl, between the major plant-bowl motifs, are 6 whorls or 'cartouches' of foliage, each enclosing within circling stems. In each case, the 6 whorls are divided into two lots of three, by a central tall plant having a vertical stem and bud, with pairs of side-leaves." (Kitchen 2009: 245). |
