CULTURAL NOTES

This ancient text, dedicated to the gods of the tribe of Haram and to ʾlmqh, testifies a period of alliance between Haram and Sabaʾ, with their kings Wtrʾl and Ydʿʾl. The inscriptions in the Haram temple of the "Banāt ʿAd", known by Halévy's copies, could be plausibly dated back to this period, as they mention Wtrʾl and are written in Minaic as well as in Sabaic.

The only other mention of the god ʾḫḫtn is in the Ancient Sabaic text A-20-1029. ʿṯtr appears in this text with the interesting epithet ḏ-Rgmt, that recalls his cult in the oasis of Najrān (see Robin 2010 b: 44).
