Apparatus
A proper name preceded by two concentric semi-circles is engraved on the back side: ʾʿs²d. Pirenne maintains that this could be a royal monogram. It seems more credible to consider it as a proper name, perhaps that of the engraver.

English

   1  Ṣdqḏkr Brn, guardian of the property of the king of Ḥaḍramawt, son of
   2  ʾls²rḥ dedicated to S¹yn ḏ-ʾlm the bronze dedication, whose
   3  value, is a ḥlf of red bronze; and he offered it, (the dedication) he had promised S¹yn
   4  as He ordered him in His oracle; and Ṣdqḏkr placed under the will of
   5  S¹yn ḏ-ʾlm and ʿṯtr, His father, and the goddesses of His temple ʾlm,
   6  and the gods and the goddesses of the city of Shabwa, his life, his faculties,
   7  his children, his properties, the good sight of his eyes and the memory of his heart, as a protection
   8  and a will that are favourable.
2-3Pirenne translates ḥlf as “valable, équivalent” (“le poids d’or est destiné à être changé en sa contre-valeur d’aromates”).

CULTURAL NOTES

Dedication to S¹yn ḏ-ʾlm, to his father ʿṯtr and to the goddesses of his temple ʾlm and to the gods and the goddesses of the city of Shabwa. The god ʿṯtr, the pan-South Arabian divinity, is the father of the main Ḥaḍramitic god, S¹yn.
