CULTURAL NOTES

"The Southarabian 'Daughters of Īl' are part of a low-ranking class of deities whose cult is neither limited by tribal frontiers nor organised by institutional powers. They belong to the 'popular religion'. These female deities, not individualized, numberless, are particularly invoked by mothers and wives" (Robin 2000: 113).
