GENERAL NOTES

The chronological hypothesis based on the palaeographical analysis (6th-5th century BC) contrasts with the one based on the iconographical studies (before 612 BC, cf. the Neo-Assyrian motifs). The picture envisaged by Robin-Antonini-Bron is threefold: we must recognize, on one hand, the uncertainty of an absolute dating based on palaeography and, on the other hand, the possibility of a posthumous survival of Neo-Assyrian iconography in South Arabia; lastly, we cannot exclude the hypothesis that the inscription is a palimpsest. The inscription could hypothetically be dated to the end of period A/ beginning of period B.
