TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  ʾbʿm, son of Lḥyʿṯt ḏ-Rḥbtm, and Ḍbm, son of ʿmkrb
   2  ḏ-ʿlz, the two qylw of the tribe Mḍḥym [... ...] ḏ-Tymm
   3  servant of the king directed and supervised the tribe Rʿnn during the cutting, the construction
   4  and the smoothing
   5  of the Brʿm pass, by the command of their lord Ydʿʾb Ḏbyn
   6  son of S²hr, king of Qatabān.

CULTURAL NOTES

This is the earliest occurrence of the term qyl "prince" in a text from the southern highland. The word also appears sporadically in other contemporary inscriptions from the northern highlands, before becoming widely used from the 1st century AD onwards.
