CULTURAL NOTES

The authors of the inscription are probably members of the banū Gurat, princes of the tribe Samharum, which is a fraction of the tribe Dhamarī, located about 40 km south of Ṣanʿāʾ.
Compare the titles in Ja 650: s²ʿbn Ḏmry Hwtn ʾrbʿw ḏ-S¹mhrm and Ja 631: s²ʿb-hmw S¹mhrm Yhwgd. In the latter, the suggested reading Yhwld must be corrected on the basis of the new occurrence in MṢM 4692.
