   2  [... ...] and ʾzʾd, of the families Ḥs¹mm and Yfʿyn, dedicated to their Patron Tʾlb
   3  Rymm Master of Ḫḍʿtn of the city of Ukāniṭ this statue, in order for Him to grant them
   4  prosperity and safety, and the satisfaction of their lords the family Hamdān, and of their tribe
   5  Ḥāshidum, and in order for Tʾlb Rymm to grant them sound fruit crops in
   6  their land, their fields and the field of their lords ḏ-Yfʿ and M[... ...]
   7  and in order for Tʾlb to continue to grant them sound faculties and material resources, and to
   8  humiliate their ill-whisher, by Tʾlb Rymm.

CULTURAL NOTES

"Cette inscription éclaire quelque peu la hiérarchie sociale de la fédération Ḥs²dm. Au sommet se trouvent les qayls, du lignage des banu Hmdn, invoqués comme seigneurs dans toutes les inscriptions rédigées par des membres de la fédération. Au dessous, dans chaque tribu, des notables locaux ont pris quelque ascendant, sans doute du fait de leur richesse: ce sont ici les ḏ-Yfʿ qui ont confié l’exploitation d’une propriété à des fermiers. Viennent ensuite de petits propriétaires qui cultivent des terres qu’ils possèdent mais peuvent travailler aussi sur celles des autres, comme les banu Ḥs¹mm de notre texte. Ces banu Ḥs¹mm n’invoquent comme 'seigneurs' (ʾmrʾ) que les banu Hdmn; les ḏ-Yfʿ ne sont leurs seigneurs qu’au titre de la propriété en fermage" (Robin).
