GENERAL NOTES

The inscription can be dated to the third quarter of the 3rd century AD: Brlm and Krbʿṯt ḏ-S¹ḥr (ll. 10-11 and 21) are attested also in Ja 567 and YM 11125 and are the authors of Ir 21, where they have the title of mqtwy of the king Ns²ʾkrb Yhʾmn Yhrḥb.

   2  et ses fils, banū [.]rbān, habitants de Nashshān,
   3  vassaux de dhū-Saḥar, ont dédié au Patron
   4  Aranyadaʿ Labuʾyum et cette statue
   5  de bronze, comme le Lui avait promis
   6  son serviteur Salmat, parce qu’Il a protégé
   7  sa personne et la personne de son frère
   8  et de son fils et parce qu’Il a accompli pour lui
   9  une révélation (?) et il s’est acquitté et a versé toute
  10  l’amende que lui avait infligée son seigneur Barīlum
  11  dhū-Saḥar, deux mille (mesures) d’orge (en mesure)
  12  dhahab et cinquante mille (monnaies) balaṭ
  13  et voilà qu’il est revenu auprès de dhū-Saḥar et voilà
  14  qu’il a loué le pouvoir et la puissance de son seigneur Ar-
  15  anyadaʿ le Patron, et parce qu’Il lui a accordé de racheter

  20  lui a accordé la faveur et la bienveillance de leurs seigneurs Ba[rīlum
  21  et Karibʿathat, [banū dhū-Saḥa]r, et pour qu’Il le délivre…

9	Bron compares the root WḤY to Arabic waḥā "inspire, suggest, reveal, write".
11-12	Bron suggests a comparison with MA 85 for s²ʿrm "barley" (Sima 2000: 247-248) and also with CIH 73, ll.7-9 for ḏhb "unit of measurement".
