   2  ḍrʿn w-mnḫy ʾs¹rr ydynn ʾʿrnn Tʾlbm w-Hyln w-Mrṯd w-Drʿ w-ʾl-ʾs¹ s¹ʾl-hmw mḥmtm w-ṣʿtm w-mflqm b-ʾlmqh

TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  Hwfʿṯt and Ns²ʾkrb, the two of the clan Ḥbb, dug out their basin Ys¹rn from foundation to top (for) the canalization system and the irrigation of their palmgroves and their lands, those
   2  in the West (?), towards the valleys belonging to the citadels Tʾlbm, Hyln, Mrṯd and Drʿ. And let nobody claim from them the irrigation system, the irrigated land and the water distribution. By ʾlmqh.
1mḥmt w-ms¹qt: "zur Bewässerung mittels Dammkanälen" (Höfner 1973).
2w-mnḫy ʾs¹rr: "und zwar am Hauptkanal der Täler" (Höfner 1973).
2ydynn ʾʿrnn: "welche fließen bei den Bergen (oder: Burgen)" (Höfner 1973);
"cultivated lands appertaining to the hill-towns" (Beeston 1978 b).
According to Höfner the verb derives from the root wdy, while Beeston prefers the root dyn.
2mḥmtm w-ṣʿtm w-mflqm : "auf Leitung (des Wassers) mittels Dammkanälen und Ableitung und Verteilung (des Wassers)" (Höfner 1973).
