GENERAL NOTES
| It is known that the aniconic stelae with ṣlw and proper name come mainly from the area of Qataban, Awsan and Ḥaḍramawt (see Müller, Walter W. 1974: 150 for the Qatabanic text Graf 7). However, despite what is stated in the museum catalogue, it is highly unlikely that this piece is from Timnaʿ. Palaeographically, the letter b with a double horizontal bar, as well as the whole style, date the text at least at the 3rd century AD. Also the use of the bt instead of bnt speaks for a late dating. The closest examples are the ones from Shabwa (e.g. RES 4696). Also, the patronymic ʿwfm is only attested once in a Hadramitic inscription. |
