| Notes on support and decorations | The vase has a hemispherical body resting on a foot shaped as a goblet, with a flat edge devoid of decoration. Generally the cantharus presents two slender vertical handles sometimes ascending over the rim, missing in this example. The body of this type of vessel comprises two walls. The inner wall is smooth and thin, while the outer wall is decorated in repoussé work. The rim is raised and decorated with a row of ovoli around its exterior face. The ornamentation in relief on the body is comprised of two oak branches along the surface of the vase, adorned with small bunches of berries. |

CULTURAL NOTES
'This type of naturalistically decorated vessel was very fashionable among the argentum potorium (drinking silvers) of rich Roman families between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. The discovery of this silver artefact in southern Arabia, and specifically from the Ḥaḍramawt, is exceptional' (Antonini De Maigret 2015: 5).
