| Notes on support and decorations | Human head on tall, inscribed base, carved in the same stone block. This constitutes the particularity of this piece, since this kind of heads are usually inserted in a separate base or in a niche. The face is well characterized: large, lozenge-shaped eyes with drilled pupils (probably originally with inlays), straight nose, thin and shut lips, flapping small ears. The neck is thick, the head ends at the hair-line, while the triangular symmetrical locks on the sides of the face suggest a female head. This type of headdress is largely attested in South Arabian sculpture (cf. Antonini 2001: C 127-C 129). |
