| Notes on support and decorations | This small male head carved from orange veined calcite-alabaster has empty eye sockets originally inlaid, a prominent nose, a small narrow mouth, and a curtain beard designated by an incised line which extends along the weak jaw to large crudely shaped ears. The style of carving closely resembles published pieces from Ḥayd ibn ʿAqīl, the main cemetery of the Qatabanian kingdom’s capital of Timnaʿ (Cleveland 1965: 7, pls. 13-14). The top and back of the head are roughly finished. |
