| Notes on support and decorations | Fragment of stela with a recumbent ibex in a rectangular panel in flat relief. Both horns are depicted in this example, curling together side by side. The nose, hooves, and down turned tail (and probably horns) touch the frame. Incised details include large eyes surmounted by wrinkles, a decorative band around the neck, and lines to indicate the nose, mouth, and tail. There are striations along the horns and an incised line divides them. Curved incised lines highlight the belly, ribs and s-shaped line of foreleg. There appears to be is a single ancient South Arabian character, ‘n’, on the hind quarters of the animal. The stela was originally thicker that 11 cm; the original back surface is not preserved. |
