| Notes on support and decorations | A female face, with long hair, and incised eyes, arched eyebrows, mouth, and large ears. The head has a dull finish on the front but the back is highly polished and appears to have been recycled from a fine white calcite-alabaster object with a curved raised edge, possibly a shallow tray. The head is rounded at the top and the on top and sides of the face is roughly carved, falling in two bunches on either side of the face. The eyes have a shallowly carved iris, possibly originally inlaid, and the nose has a pig-like appearance with drilled nostrils. The face has full cheeks and the creases around the mouth and chin are subtly modelled. The head is similar in style to BM 141563, also recycled and collected by Doe. |
